Parliament has approved to appoint Ahmed Thasmeen as Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore.

Thasmeen will be replacing the current Ambassador Ibrahim Shaheeb, who will fill the role of Maldivian Ambassador to India in the future.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted a letter to the Parliament on 15 June for Thasmeen's appointment. He was given approval by unanimous vote from the Parliament on Thursday.

Thasmeen formerly filled the role of Home Minister in 2008, and ran for Presidential Elections in 2008 alongside former president Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom as his Vice President.
