The total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year has crossed the 700,000 mark.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, there have been a total of 805,986 tourist arrivals in 2022 so far. As per statistics, daily tourist arrivals have been averaging at 4,503, with an average of 8.2 nights spent in the country.

Total arrivals for the month of January stood at 131,764 while the number for February was at 149,011 and May posted 150,739 arrivals. The month of April saw 145,279 total tourist arrivals.

India leads the top source market for tourist arrivals, amounting to 14.8 percent of the total tourist arrivals this year. The United Kingdom remains in the second with 11.9 percent. Russia, which remained the top source market for several months has slipped to the third of the list with 10 percent of the tourist arrivals.. The Russian-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing war has had a strong impact on tourist numbers from the countries.

The Maldives saw 1.3 million tourist arrivals in 2021. The Ministry of Tourism aims to increase the annual number to 1.6 million this year.
