Cuban doctors start arriving in Maldives; 12 more flying in on Sunday

The first batch of specialist doctors from Cuba have started arriving in Maldives.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in December 2021 between Health Ministry and Cuban government as part of the efforts to strengthen the health sector in Maldives.

The MoU was signed at a ceremony held in Cuba - with State Minister Dr. Shah Abdulla signing on behalf of Maldives and Cuba's Health Minister Dr. Jose Angelo signing on behalf of Cuba.

Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the first batch of four specialist doctors arrived in the Maldives today, with twelve more specialists set to arrive on Sunday.

The specialists include a Haematologist, a psychiatrist for National Drug Agency (NDA), a family medicine doctor for Dhamana Veshi, and a internal medicine specialists to work in atolls as well as surgeons and anaesthesiologists, and a radiologist.
