Jumhooree Party's (JP) leader and ADh. Maamigili constituency MP, Qasim Ibrahim, has stated that the party will contest in the 2023 Presidential Elections.
Qasim made the announcement while speaking at JP's "Thayyaaru" event at Kunooz.
Speaking at the event, Qasim stated that a political party's purpose is to contest in elections and win. As such, JP will be contesting in the elections in 2023, he added.
However, Qasim did not clarify whether JP will be contesting as part of the coalition or a stand-alone party.
"How JP will contest in the elections, whether as part of a coalition, or a stand alone party will be decided by the party's council", Qasim said.
He added that the Presidential candidate will be decided by the Party's congress; whether it is through a primary or otherwise.
"For us to deliver on our mandate and work for the betterment of society, JP needs to be involved in politics at the forefront", Qasim said.
He further added that JP's target is to increase the party membership to 30,000.
