Government of Maldives earned MVR 96 million as Green Tax (GT) in the month of May.
According to statistics published by the Finance Ministry on Monday, Green Tax from resorts amounted to MVR 90 million, while Hotels paid MVR 1.04 million in GT and Guesthouses paid MVR 2.5 million. GT from Liveaboards amounted to MVR 2.1 million.
Green Fund expenditure include 44 projects spanning coastal protection and establishment of water and sewerage networks across Maldives. As such, a total of MVR 36.7 million was spent on projects in May as per Finance Ministry statistics.
Statistics showed that Green Fund expenditure was lower in May compared to April, with a total of MVR 356.7 million spent this year from Green Fund.
Finance Ministry statistics showed that Green Fund had a total of MVR 827.6 million in the month of May.
Maldives commenced Green Tax in October 2016, with a USD 6 tax being collected from tourists vacationing in resorts, safaris, and liveaboards, and a USD 3 tax collected from tourists vacationing in hotels and guesthouses.
