Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has passed to forward a motion of no confidence of Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem to the parliament.

Some members of the PG Group had tried to agenda the topic previously as well. However, it was not tabled during the meeting held on June 1st.

MDP PG Leader and North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam said that the topic was not tabled during that meeting since it was a serious issue, and added that it will be looked into as a separate issue during the next meeting.

During a meeting of the PG Group held today, 17 of the 21 members present had voted to forward a motion of no confidence in the Prosecutor General to the Parliament.

Members of the MDP PG Group have recently found a distaste towards PG Shameem over his handling of the terrorist attack on Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and how many involved in large-scale drug cases have been free as of late. Members highlighted the slow process such cases go through and how people in drug cases get released so easily.

The parliamentary session today also saw MDP members very critical of the PG.
