Former Assistant Attorney General Ismail Wisham has been elected as the President of Bar Council.
The term of the first executive committee of the Bar Council was set to expire on July 13. 765 members had registered to vote in the election.
Wisham won the elections on Saturday by beating Mohamed Faisal. Wisham won 270 votes while Faisal won 182 votes.
Meanwhile, Mizna Ahmed was elected as Vice President. She was the sole contender for the position, and the council, therefore, took a yes or no vote.
While Wisham and Mizna were elected as the President and Vice President respectively, while former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu, Lawyer Ibrahim Shameel and Sadhihu Naseer were elected to the Executive Committee.
The committee is elected for a three-year term. The Attorney General is also included in the committee.
