Member of Parliament (MP) for Mahibadhoo constituency, Ahmed Thoriq, has said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has approached Jumhooree Party Leader and Maamiligi constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim to be his running mate in the 2023 presidential elections.

Thoriq took to Twitter to question President Solih's decision to approach Qasim for running mate, asking whether Speaker of Parliament and former president Mohamed Nasheed was undeserving of it.

Thoriq said that he had previously nominated Qasim for Speaker but President Solih, despite having majority in the Parliament, had rejected it.

He added that the current administration has not fulfilled their pledge to give the coalition the rights they were promised.

President Solih travelled to Maamigili on Friday morning to meet with Qasim Ibrahim.

Neither President Solih nor Qasim Ibrahim have confirmed MP Thoriq's claim. President Solih on Wednesday expressed his interest in running for Presidency in 2023 alongside the coalition.
