Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has said that accidents cannot be reduced or stopped without fulfilling civic responsibilities.

The Minister said this while speaking at the inauguration of the National Road Awareness Program this morning. She noted the importance of every citizen of Maldives taking up their individual civic responsibility.

Additionally, the Minister said that there will be no success in the reduction of accidents without civic responsibility, even if all concerning authorities banded together to work on it.

As such, Minister Nahula has called on citizen cooperation in reducing accidents. She further expressed her hopes that priority will be given to reduction of speed.

While the government had pledged the distribution of 5000 free helmets to people, each participants who complete the National Road Awareness Program are set to receive a helmet.

The government has organized to distribute a total of 2500 helmets through this program. The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has also arranged to distribute the remaining 2500 helmets for areas that have a speed limit of over 30 kilometers per hour.
