Tourism Minister, Abdulla Mausoom, has stated that the ministry has decided to recall L. Bodufinolhu project and compensate Premier Equity, citing delays in project work.
L. Bodufinolhu was contracted to be developed for tourism 12 years ago.
Minister Mausoom made the remarks at the Parliament on Monday, while answering questions L. Gan constituency MP Mohamed Visam.
He added that tourism development in L. Atoll is a priority for the state. As such, he added that the state is working on resolving the Bodufinolhu issue and start a better project in the atoll.
Minister Mausoom said that Premier Equity, which was contracted to develop L. Bodufinolhu, needs to be compensated and that the ministry has approached the Economic Council to hold discussions with relevant authorities on the issue.
L. Bodufinolhu was contracted to Premier Equity in 2008 to be developed for tourism. The island was leased to the company for 25 years.
