Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom has said that the ministry will take action against tourist resorts defaulting on land-rent.

Minister Mausoom made the remarks while answering questions by Holhudhoo constituency MP Yoonus Ali. He said that the ministry has issued notice to 18 resorts for defaulting on land-rent, adding that the ministry reserves the right to withhold or cancel resort licenses.

He went on to add that it is not an option the ministry is considering, taking into account the economy and the livelihoods of the employees in the resorts. He said the ministry is working on solving the issue without revoking resort licenses.

Minister Mausoom noted that the state earns major revenue through tourism, stating that the ministry will continue to take actions against resorts that continue to default.
