President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has concluded his visit to AA. Ukulhas for the 'Viavathi Raajje' conference held from 28-29 May.

The conference was aimed towards strengthening the government's efforts to promote decentralised governance system and ensure the legal and fiscal autonomy of local councils in Maldives.

Government ministers and senior officials, technical experts, local government officials, Women's Development Committee (WDC) representatives, and the media joined a sports festival held on Friday ahead of the conference.

The 'Viavathi Raajje' conference featured sessions on fiscal and legal autonomy, formulating land-use plans, the roles of WDCs, and the future of decentralisation.

Local Government Authority (LGA) and WDC representatives presented their ideas and highlighted concerns during discussions on potential solutions during the conference. President Solih also suggested considering the role of men in WDC to work towards women empowerment, adding onto the idea presented by the Gender Minister during discussions.

The 'Viavathi Raajje' conference is being held separately for the northern, central, and southern atolls. The conference in Ukulhas entered around central atolls in Maldives.

The two-day conference was attended by President Solih, government officials, LGA, and WDC representatives.
