State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Managing Director, Ahmed Shareef, has said they will move in residents to to STELCO flats by July.

In an exclusive interview with 'One', Shareef said that STELCO flats under Hiyaa project were complete except the electric work. Shareef expressed his concern over the delays by HDC to complete the electric works at the flats, and added that STELCO is willing to do the electric works by themselves and have the flats ready for move-in by July.

HDC has contracted the electric and water network works for Hulhumale Phase II to a Chinese company with STELCO providing technical consultancy.

HDC issued an announcement last week that despite the delays in the electric works, the Hiyaa project flats will be completed by September.

Addressing the delays, Shareef stated that STELCO's aim is to have the flats completed by July for residents to move in, adding that the Company is considering proposing to HDC to finish the electric works themselves.

"It is a big challenge. The construction work is complete but residents are unable to move in due to delays in HDC planning. We will hold meetings with HDC to discuss the matter", Shareef said.

He added that STELCO's aim is to ensure the residents can move in smoothly without any issues. To this measure, Shareef said STELCO will do all the necessary work required to finish the flats.

"It is humorous that we are an electric company but our staff are unable to move in to their flats because the electric works have not been completed", Shareef said.

Delays in the electric works at Hiyaa project flats are due to delays in finishing the electric network designs by the Chinese company.
