State Minister for Education Ministry, Ahmed Riyaz, has been suspended.

President's Office Spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez, informed the media on Sunday that State Minister Riyaz has been suspended due to an ongoing investigation into the minister.

Spokesperson Mabrook declined further comments as to what the minister was investigated for.

It has, however, come to light from unofficial channels that the minister was suspended over sexual assault allegations, pending investigation.

Speaking to 'One', minister Riyaz denied the allegations floating around media and social media channels, saying the allegations have caused great distress to his family and himself.

He went on to tell 'One' that the allegations were politically motivated and that he has not been officially informed the reason for his suspension.

He said that he has not been called in for questioning about the allegations by any authority yet, adding that the Education Minister herself has not questioned him about anything either.
