The MP for Kelaa constituency and Spokesperson to PPM, Ali Arif, has said that the MP for Fonadhoo constituency Abdul Raheem Abdulla has been summoned before the Anti -Corruption Commission.

MP Arif said this during the debate at today’s sitting of Parliament regarding an amendment for the Elections Act. The amendment had been proposed by MP’s of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) regarding the dismissal of votes that have more than one selection on it.

The Spokesperson of PPM said that MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has been summoned before the ACC today and that he himself had been summoned at 11:00 pm today. MP Arif further said that he will be summoned to the Maldives Police Service next, and that he too will face an arrest. He reiterated that the current government’s actions are not just.

MP Arif further went on to criticise the current administration and made various allegations against the government. He claimed that the government has said that there will be cooperation on determining the the validity of votes. MP Aruf said however that, the government has instead resorted to scare tactics and threats of terminating employment in an attempt to gain votes.

He noted that the ACC report on corruption at MMPRC has revealed the names of various members of this administration and the highest measure taken against them was that they were temporarily relieved from their positions. MP Arif reiterated that former President Yameen had however faced detention regarding the same charges and added that this shows that the current administration lacks principles and  justice.
