Vilimale Hospital is currently under investigation for trying to administer an expired vaccine to an infant.
The incident was brought to public attention by PPM steering committee member Aminath Seena Mohamed who took to Twitter with photos of the expired vaccine, stating that the hospital had tried to administer it on a 6-month-old. Seena added that the infant's father had refused to vaccinate the child after noticing the expiration.
Although the photo did not clearly indicate which vaccine it was, the expiry date on the vaccine seen in the photo was dated 1 January 2022.
Vilimale MP Ahmed Usham addressed the incident on Twitter, saying that there have been concerns raised about Vilimale Hospital administering expired vaccines. His tweet went on to say that this is a serious issue that needs to be investigated by the administration.
Addressing the incident, Health Ministry's media official sent out a message to media stating that the incident was under investigation and the ministry will reveal more once investigation is complete.
