Special Envoy to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former MP for Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabir, has said that the Maldivian people will vote for him. He has also said that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is his party and that measures will not be taken against him by the party even if he runs in Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
Speaking to One Online regarding the matter, Jabir said that the appeal at Supreme Court was submitted after the urging of many citizens to do so. He has further said that he does not believe that there will be measures taken by MDP regarding his decision to run for Parliament.
He reiterated that every action has taken has been as the people want. As such, he said that employing efforts to develop the Kaashidhoo constituency to the level of a City is desired by all citizens of the constituency. He added that, God-willing, this development will come into fruition.
Jabir noted that accomplishing any major task that the people want requires experience and capability to complete the tasks. He said that while he has shown these abilities through his businesses, the people want a member of Parliament that has the experience and capability.
Article 10 of the Political Parties Act previously dictated that candidates who have lost in lawful or Constitutional party primary elections will not be allowed to run in Parliamentary elections under any category.
Abdulla Jabir and two other candidates had said that the law violates fundamental rights and submitted to appeal the dismissal of the law at Supreme court after a loss in the MDP primaries.
The Supreme Court had ruled to dismiss this law recently, stating that the law was unconstitutional and allowing candidates who lost in Primaries to take part in Parliamentary elections.
