Fisheries Minister, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, has stated that work is underway to increase Kooddoo's fish processing capacity to 800 tonnes by August.
The minister made his remarks at the Parliament on Monday in response to questions by Vilingili Constituency MP Said Hussain.
Minister Dr. Hussain noted the projected increase in fisheries from August to January, adding that the government is working on adding Kooddoo's capacity to process between 800-1000 tonnes per day during that period.
Kooddoo's present fish processing capacity is at 400 tonnes daily.
The Minister said that Kooddoo's fish processing capacity can be increased by purchasing vessels with cold storage units. He added that discussions were held at the President's Office on Monday as well regarding the purchase of the vessels, and that it could be bought and brought within the next three months if finances are secured.
