Elections Commission (EC) of Maldives on Sunday started publicising names of people joining political parties.

In an announcement made by EC, the Commission stated that it will publicise individual information including name and last three digits of the national identity card number to ensure the applications are authentic. As such, the information has been uploaded on the Commissions website and text messages have also been sent to the applicants, EC said.

The Commission said that disputes regarding application can be submitted to EC until next Sunday.

The list publicised by EC on Sunday include 23 forms by Jumhooree Party, 105 forms by MDP and 245 forms by MNP.

The decision to publicise applicant details was taken due to complaints from political parties stating fraudulent submissions of forms in their member's names.
