Total tourist arrivals to date crosses 600,000 mark

The total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year has crossed the 600,000 mark.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, there have been a total of 621,633 tourist arrivals in 2022 so far. This is an increase of about 55 percent compared to the same period last year. The same period saw 412,654 arrivals last year.

Total arrivals for the month of January stood at 131,764 while the number for February was at 149,011 and May posted 150,739 arrivals. The month of April saw 145,279 total tourist arrivals.

So far, during the month of May, 44,843 tourist arrivals have been recorded.

The United Kingdom leads the top source market for tourist arrivals. While India moves onto the second, Russia, which remained the top source market for several months has slipped to the third of the list. The Russian-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing war has had a strong impact on tourist numbers from the countries.

The Maldives saw 1.3 million tourist arrivals in 2021. The Ministry of Tourism aims to increase the annual number to 2 million this year.
