The United Kingdom leads the top source market for tourist arrivals. While India moves onto the second, Russia, which remained the top source market for several months has slipped to the third of the list. The Russian-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing war has had a strong impact on tourist numbers from the countries.
The Maldives saw 1.3 million tourist arrivals in 2021. The Ministry of Tourism aims to increase the annual number to 2 million this year.
