Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Eva Abdulla, has stated that the parliament's 241 committee's recommendations have not been followed in the investigation into the attack on former president and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking on PSM's 'Raajje Miadhu' program on Friday night, Eva noted that a year since the attack, parliament has not received updated on the 241 committee's recommendations made in the inquiry report.

She added that the committee received a list in the months after the parliament committee publicised the inquiry report. However, none of the recommendations were fully implemented as per the inquiry report, Eva noted.

Eva further added that although Nasheed received additional security as per the inquiry report and that his official house is yet to be completed. She described Nasheed's current accommodation as a small prison.

Eva attributed the attack on Nasheed to the failure of the state to protect the Parliament Speaker after receiving intel on an imminent attack on him. She added that while there was no intel on the exact time of attack, authorities had prior knowledge of a possible attack on Nasheed.

As such, Eva noted that intelligence professionals who spoke to the Parliament's 241 Committee were aware that Nasheed's movements and security were tracked by extremist groups prior to the attack.

Eva further added that the delays in the investigation have undermined Nasheed's ability to carry out his duties as Speaker of Parliament. She noted that following the committee's recommendations is vital for Nasheed to continue fulfilling his duties, and that the recommendations are dire in ensuring no such attacks take place in the future.
