Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Saudi Crown Prin Mohammed bin Salman and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud on Thursday.

Erdogan is accompanied by his wife, Emine, and several Turkish officials on the two-day official visit to the country.

This is Erdogan's first visit to Saudi Arabia since the killing on journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Turkish officials have previously said that Khashoggi was killed and dismembered inside the Saudi consulate approved by the highest levels in Riyadh - leading to strained diplomatic ties between the two nations and an unofficial Saudi boycott of Turkish goods.

Erdogan's visit to Saudi is an attempt to mend ties with Saudi Arabia amid economic challenges in Turkey ahead of elections next year.
