High speed ferry services to begin in HDh Atoll today; fare-free for first 8 days

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced high speed 'Rashu Transport Link' (RTL) ferry services in HDh. Atoll today.

RTL intra and inter atoll ferry services will be provided in zone 1 comprising of HA., HDh. and Sh. atolls. As such, ferry services will be carried out across 13 islands in HDh. atoll among 5 routes.

MTCC stated that ferry rides within HDh. Atoll will be provided free of charge until the 10th of May to get customers accustomed to the new ferry service.

MTCC added that RTL ferries have a 50-person capacity and are designed to provide ease and comfort to passengers, with charging ports at every seat. Additionally, the ferries will have a rest room and a separate luggage area. Passengers can carry 1 carry-on luggage in addition to their luggage bag.

Free ferry rides on RTL ferries can be booked within HDh. Atoll via the island councils until 10th May, after which the ferries will be operated at set rates, MTCC said.

MTCC stated that work is currently ongoing on the second and third phase of the RTL ferry project. MTCC was contracted last month with RTL ferry project to provide ferry services to the different zones as follows:

  • Zone 1 (Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu & Shaviyani Atoll)
  • Zone 2 (Noonu, Raa & Baa Atoll)
  • Zone 3 (Kaafu, Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu & Vaavu Atoll)
  • Zone 4 (Meemu, Faafu & Dhaalu Atoll)
  • Zone 5 (Thaa & Laamu Atoll)
