Mission for Migrant Workers Maldives (MMWM) has concluded their 'Donate a Meal, Help a Life' Iftar Meal Pack distribution campaign for migrant workers during the month of Ramadan.
MMWM distributed 10,060 meal packs this Ramadan - twice as much compared to the 4,500 meal packs they distributed during last year. the NGO also raised more than MVR 170,000 through a community fund-raising campaign as well.
The 'Donate a Meal, Help a Life' Iftar Meal Pack distribution campaign was carried out to assist vulnerable migrant workers during Ramadan, to ensure they received appropriate Iftar meals during the month. MMWM, together with its partners - The Space, Ooredoo Maldives, and Mamak - distributed meal packs every day during Ramadan.
China Garden and Dhiraagu provided additional support in expanding the campaign this year. In addition, MMWM also had more than 20 volunteers actively involved and contributing throughout the campaign.
MMWM president Dr. Minah Faiz Rashad expressed his gratitude for the volunteers engaged in Iftar meal pack distribution as well as the partners for their contribution, and the community for coming together for a great cause and making the campaign an extraordinary success this year. He encouraged more volunteers to join the NGO's efforts in the coming year.
MMWM also garnered huge support from the public through their social media campaign #migrantworkersofmaldives in partnership with One Online which depicted the stories of migrant workers in the Maldives. MMWM has also launched a year-long campaign under the theme 'Inclusive 2022' to advance the inclusion of migrant workers in all areas of society to complement the efforts by the Maldivian government, UN agencies as well as NGOs working together to tackle issues concerning migrant workers.
MMWM stated that they hope to receive continuous support from the public in their endeavours in advocating for the rights of migrant workers.
