A blast at the Khalifa Sahib Mosque has killed more than 50 worshippers after prayers on Friday.

The latest in a series of attacks on Afghan civilian targets during Ramadan was carried out in the west of the capital in the early afternoon, deputy spokesperson for the interior ministry, Besmullah Habib, stated.

The attack was targeted towards Sunni Muslims gathered at the mosque after Friday prayers. Head of the mosque, Sayed Fazil Agha, said that it is believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber who joined congregation.

Hospitals have received multiple injured civilians and many reported dead.

Zahibullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the ruling Taliban, condemned the attack stating the perpetrators should be found and punished.
