Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has stated that their second vessel will arrive in the Maldives this month.

Speaking to 'One', MSS Managing Director Abdulla Saeed said that the vessel bought from Singapore's COSCO Shipping International will have a 43,000 tonne capacity.

The vessel is currently in UAE undergoing survey and will arrive in the Maldives and commence scheduled services once all recommendations are met.

Saeed added that the new vessel will bring construction material such as cement and aggregate, ensuring construction materials will be available in bulk commodities.

The new vessel is by far the largest shipping vessel purchased by the national shipping line, with 22 crew members of which all but 4 are Maldivian.

Saeed further added that the vessel will carry its 43,000 tonne capacity on the first voyage to Maldives, stating that the vessel will carry construction material needed by the private sector as well.
