Malaysian authorities have reported that large groups of Rohingya detainees who escaped from the temporary detention facility in Kedah on Wednesday seem to be heading south.
Speaking at a press conference, Penang Police Chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that "they are moving in large groups and as they are barefooted, I believe they must be tired."
He added that present assumption after speaking to those who have been caught is that the group is moving south, but have no destination in mind.
Malaysian authorities said 528 out of 664 Rohingya detainees fled from Sungai Bakap temporary detention facility following a riot.
