Immigration Service has said that they have not withheld Uz. Azima Shukoor’s passport. Ustaz Azima Shukoor is the Current Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and former Minister of Legal Affairs at the President’s Office.

Immigration Controller Ahmed Hussain Hanafee has given an interview to an online news source regarding the matter. Hanafee has denied the claims that Immigration Services have withheld Azima’s passport.

The claim that Azima’s passport was being withheld by Immigration was made yesterday by the MP for Fonadhoo constituency and interim Leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla at a joint press conference with PPM.

Stating that the government has taken obstructive action against opposition members, MP Abdul Raheem has made the claim that Azima’s passport was being withheld by Immigration. The interim Leader of PNC further said that there are currently attempts to withhold passports of various senior officials of PPM and PNC. He added that Immigration Services have also already taken passports of these opposition members.

The Prosecutor General’s office have raised charges of facilitating money laundering and giving false testimony to an official institution against Uz. Azima Shukoor.
