While an incident had been reported of a capsized dinghy transporting a total of two people with one of the passengers missing, the other passenger has revealed details regarding the incident. The passenger on the dinghy who swam to nearby Six Senses Resort to seek help after it capsized has said that the woman who had accompanied him had been left with a cellphone and an empty fuel tank to assist floating above water.

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that the woman does not know how to swim. The Defense Force has also reported that while the woman is still missing, they are currently utilising helicopters to search the area.

A Media Official of MNDF has informed that the search for 19-year old Shimaa from Maamendhoo is still ongoing and that coast guard divers are also active in the area.

The dinghy traveling from Laamu Fonadhoo to Laamu Maamendhoo had capsized near the island of Gaadhoo in the same atoll. While there were two people aboard the dinghy, one of the passengers was a man and the other, who is still missing was a woman. The MNDF media Official had reported that after the dinghy capsized, the man swam to Six Senses Resort and sought help.

MNDF has reported that the dinghy had a small tank and petrol of 20 litres onboard. It has also been reported that after the vessel had stopped, the man was refueling the tank when a large wave washed over and capsize the dinghy. MNDF has said that the dinghy had left Laamu Fonadhoo yesterday, around 6:00 pm.

While the man who swam to the resort after the incident is receiving medical care at Gan regional hospital, his condition is reportedly improving. The incident had been reported to MNDF around 9:30 pm last night.
