Russian national airline, Aeroflot is preparing to resume operations in the Maldives during the month of April.

Aeroflot suspended international flights following the Russian invasion of Ukraine which prompted several sanctions on Russia by different countries. They are now preparing to resume international operations once again.

One Online has learned that the airline is currently preparing to resume direct flights to the Maldives and are in the process of making the necessary arrangements.

Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom revealed to One Online last night that there is no restrictions on any airline that wishes to operate and that the Maldives will always welcome airlines from different countries. He noted that it is important for Aeroflot to resume its operations in the Maldives soon.

The Minister further said that the Russia-Ukraine tensions have caused the Ukrainian tourist market to be completely closed, with a sharp decline in the number of Russian tourist arrivals as well. He noted that this is currently impacting the entire hospitality industry as a whole.
