Bank of Maldives has today announced the successful completion of projects in HA. Thakandhoo and L. Fonadhoo as part of their Community Fund which focuses on empowering individuals to contribute to society through sustainable community projects.

Under the project, an outdoor reading area at Thakandhoo School was established. The open space at the school premises has now been transformed with huts and bookshelves for students to enjoy. In addition to the library, community bookshelves were also established around the island.

“Prior to this project, students used the school office as a library. Our aim was to provide a space both for students to read books and to use for outdoor class activities. We will be organizing an island wide book donation campaign to add more books to the outdoor library and community bookshelves," Commenting on the project, Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh said.

Under the BML Community Fund, L. Fonadhoo also established an outdoor reading area at the school premises. The space will be utilized by students of Laamu Atoll Education Centre. The space is designed with bookshelves, seating area and tables.

Project winner Fathimath Shaheedha, from Parent Teacher Association of Laamu Atoll Education Centre said, “This is a much-needed space that will help instill the love for reading among students.”

The Community Fund is a program to empower individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. As of today, the Bank has provided financial assistance for 65 projects across the country through this Fund.
