Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has returned after a visit to Malaysia tonight.
President Gayoom addressed the press regarding the visit after his return tonight, at Velana International Airport.
President Gayoom had departed to Malaysia on 13 February on an official invitation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr.Mahathir bin Mohamad.
The former President said that the Malaysian Prime Minister had carried out discussions with the him and noted the similarities between the issues faced by both nations. President Gayoom also noted that the Malaysian PM had also noted that both nations also had similar experiences. As such, he said that the Malaysian PM had noted that both nations had suffered great injustices, corruption and discord at the hands of the government against its people. He added that the people of both nations have experienced violations that are unlawful during those days.
Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, said that he had presented Malaysian Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad with an official invitation by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to visit Maldives.
President Gayoom noted that the Malaysian Prime Minister graciously accepted the invitation to visit Maldives. He however noted that the PM may not be able to visit Maldives in the near future.
