The Cabinet on Tuesday deliberated on the current situation of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Cabinet meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

During the deliberations, members discussed the potential effects on the Maldivian economy as a result of the conflict and preemptive steps to mitigate those effects. They also discussed the Maldives' foreign policy stand on the issue.

The ongoing was has seen oil prices across the globe witness a spike, due to which prices in the Maldives has gone up too. Economic experts predict that the rise in oil prices will cause all three, land, sea and air transport to raise fares as well.

In addition to this, sanctions against Russia are expected to cause a decline in tourist arrivals from Russia to the Maldives, which remains as one of the top markets for the country.
