Local Governance Authority (LGA) has assigned five projects from the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) to the island councils.

The projects assigned by the LGA are to develop the island council offices of Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhuffushi City, Laamu Atoll Kalaidhoo, Thaa Kinbidhidhoo and Dhanbidhoo along with Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru, at their respective islands.

A special ceremony was held yesterday to assign the projects to the councils. The agreements were stunned by the CEO of LGA, Fathimath Afshan Latheef and the respective Island Council Presidents and the Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City.

CEO Afshan spoke at the ceremony highlighting the importance of the projects assigned and assured LGA support to carry out the projects effectively. She also said that it is an important goal of the government to create an atmosphere for the decentralised governance to develop and thrive.

At the ceremony, the Councils expressed the existing challenges and how the new projects could help overcome them.
