The total number of tourist arrivals to date in 2022 has exceeded 200,000, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.
According to the latest update, the total number of tourist arrivals from 01 January to 16 February reached 210,184.
Tourist arrivals to the island nation in annual terms observed growth of 44.9% and for February exclusively, a growth of 48.1% when compared with the corresponding periods in 2021.
For February alone, from 01 to 16, the total number of tourist arrivals reached 78,420 while for the same period in 2021, tourist arrivals reached 52,943.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals during the same period in both 2019 and 2020 indicated stronger arrival numbers. In 2019, from 01 to 16 February the total number of guests visiting the Maldives was recorded at 101,354, and in 2020 for the same period, it was recorded at 84,563.
In annual terms, tourist arrivals from January to 16 February in 2021 stood at 145,046 and in 2019 it had reached 252,906 while in 2020 it increased to 257,910.
From the top source markets, Russia continues to remain as the strongest single source market with 33,191 arrivals so far (15.8%) while United Kingdom is the second strongest source market with 24,010 arrivals (11.4%).
India is currently third ranked with 18,044 arrivals (8.6%) while Germany is the fourth strongest single source market with 15,992 arrivals (7.6%) and Italy is ranked fifth with 14,599 arrivals so far (6.9%).
