Vice President Faisal Naseem has said that peace cannot be established in this country so long as justice is only served to certain people.

The VP said this while speaking at the inauguration of the  “Judicial Conference on Judicial Independence and Reform” today.  He said that peace cannot be established in a society without justice. As such, he urged for the responsibility of judicial reform and progress to be taken up fully. VP Naseem also said that the people should be guaranteed a judiciary that conducts its practices of justice independently, with integrity and based on proper knowledge.

He noted that the Supreme Court plays a significant role within the judiciary. VP Naseem said that, as such, Supreme Court should play a part in ensuring judicial reform and  independence, as well as whether courts are a place of justice. He also said that it is the people’s hope that the Supreme Court is molded to a place that has the trust and confidence of the people.

VP Naseem noted that conferences such as the “Judicial Conference on Judicial Independence and Reform” is a significant and major step towards bettering and developing our systems. He said that the purpose of these conferences are the work is carried out to to ensure independence of courts in Maldives as well as to reform courts under the Constitution and best practices of this nation.

Vice President Faisal Naseem also noted the work of Maldives Judicial Academy carried out under the Supreme Court, and expressed his gratitude for the efforts.
