An elderly in Gaafu Alifu Atoll Dhaandhoo has accidentally been given a second shot of the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Maldives has been administering only one dose of the booster shot.
President of the Dhaandhoo Island Council, Mohamed Asif told ONE Online today that an 82-year-old woman has been given the booster shot for a second time.
Council President Asif said that the staff at the Health Center had failed to record the initial booster shot to the woman.
"I think it was (because of a) clerical error. No one would do it on purpose. From the point they realised the dose had been given again, she (the elderly woman) has been admitted and is being closely monitored. Instructions from the (Health Protection Agency) HPA is being followed. Last night too I visited. Said she I'd very good, nothing has gone wrong. Went to the (health) center this morning as well and visited her." Asif said.
Attempts to reach the Manager of the Dhaandhoo Health Center, Ismail Latheef for a comment via phone and text has been unsuccessful.
Commissioner of Quality Assurance at the Health Ministry, Thasleema Usman told ONE Online today that the case has been brought to the attention of the ministry and the HPA. And the relevant inquiries are being made with the relevant people involved.
