President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the Presidential Commission looking in to the disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan has assured him the investigation will be completed and the report by the Commission will be delivered around the middle of the year.

He made the statement during his address at the Parliament today at the first session of the year.

President Solih said that the inquiring about Rilwan's case has been the highest priority for the Commission he formed to Investigate Disappearances and Deaths. He said that the Commission has conducted interviews with over 200 individuals and has analysed financial transactions with the help of a Financial Expert from abroad.

He also said that the Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) is working on appealing against those who were acquitted in the first phase of the trial in the murder of blogger Yaamin Rasheed.

The President said that the Commission was unable to continue investigating Yaamin's case when it went to trial but that ended and the Commission has resumed the investigation.

On January 19 2022, the Criminal Court convicted Ismail Haisham, Male' City and Ahmed Zihan Ismail, Male' City, of first degree intentional murder for killing of 29-year-old Yaamin who was attacked with a sharp object on the stairwell of his residence on 23 April 2017.

Six people were charge regarding the crime but the other four were found not guilty. Haisham and Zihan were convicted after it was proven they were involved in carrying out the attack.
