The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Maldives has risen to 277 after another person has passed away.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that a 74-year-old Maldivian man passed away at 6:51 a.m. this morning while undergoing treatment at the COVID-19 treatment facility in Hulhumale'.

He started treatment for a kidney disease 16 days ago and has been treating for blood pressure issues, high cholesterol and diabetes. However, he passed away due to COVID-19.

An elderly patient at the Hulhumale' facility passed away last night as well.

With this most recent death today, a total of 259 locals and 18 foreigners has passed away so far. The highest reported COVID deaths on a single day in the Maldives has been on 25 May 2021 where 13 deaths were reported.

The first COVID-related reported in the country was reported on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old local woman.
