Interim President of People’s National Congress (PNC) and MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has said that it is time Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim split from government and join the opposition.  

MP Abdul Raheem said this after former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had been summoned to Criminal Court for a hearing regarding an arrest. The Prosecutor General's Office had asked the Criminal Court to issue an arrest of the former President on charges of money laundering.

The interim leader of PNC spoke at a joint press conference with PPM today, following President Yameen summon to court. MP Abdul Raheem has said that there are no leaders who love their country more than former President Yameen. He added however, that there is another leader that comes close, and that is current leader of Jumhooree party, Qasim Ibrahim. JP is ome one of the coalition parties that formed the current government. MP Abdul Raheem has said that Qasim will not simply stand by while this country is sold off. He added that the JP leader will make a stand at a time when the religion and nation are being insulted.

The MP, Abdul Raheem has also said that it is time for Qasim to split from the government and join the opposition parties PPM and PNC. The MP specified that this call to Qasim to join the opposition was not made due to the possibility of President Yameen’s detention. He said that the reason is that those that are spearheading efforts for the arrest of President Yameen, consists of people who insult religion and country.
