Six people have been arrested in Hulhumale' Phase 2 with a large shipment prepared to be smuggled into prison.
Maldives Police Service said that the arrests were made during a special operation this morning.
Police said that officers saw two people take a safe up to one of the towers in phase two and the two men threw away the safe and tried to run.
And while the initial search of the two people did not yield much, Futher questioning and inquiries led to four others at an apartment at a Hiyaa Tower with what is suspected of being what was carried in the safe.
Police said that they seized 18 mobile phones, 28 chargers, 28 headsets, ten memory cards, 12 SIM cards and other cables and such were found in the apartment. And the investigation revealed that these were contraband prepared to be smuggled in to a prison.
Regarding the case, Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 24-year-old man along with four 20-year-olds. Hulhumale' Police Station is investigating the case further.
