President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that this administration will always direct efforts to protect freedom of media.
The President said this during a meeting with members of the Maldives Media Council today.
The Maldives Media Council had shared information with President Solih on future plans for the progress of media as well as current endeavors, at the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning.
Members of the Council had also held talks with the President regarding challenges faced as well as communicated what the council requires.
As such, the Media Council have noted the dissolution of the Anti-defamation Bill and expressed gratitude to the President for this effort.
The Maldives Media Council had presented a book titled “Alimas”, to President Solih during the meeting today. The book was prepared on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Maldivian Journalism.
President Solih had offered assurances to the Maldives Media Council that the government will continue to work in conjunction with the Ministries to provide what is required by the council.
