Four more islands have been placed under a monitoring status after the COVID-19 situation in the atolls have gotten worse.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the islands placed under monitoring today so far are Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo, Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo, Dhaalu Atoll Bandidhoo and Laamu Gan. And with these four islands, the total number of Maldivian islands under monitoring due to COVID-19 has risen to 12.
Yesterday's statistics from the HPA showed 249 cases from the atolls and 413 cases from the Male' City raising the total number of cases in the country to 100,451.
HPA attributed the recent surge of COVID cases in the country is the latest COVID-19 variant, Omicron. The number of cases are expected to rise further next month according to the HPA
