Speaker of Parliament and Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim, has said that the list of names released by ACC regarding corruption at MMPRC is incomplete. He said that the full list of those who received cash from the corruption should be released by the ACC.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had recently revealed a report on acts of corruption at Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) during former President Yameen’s administration.

While Qasim has announced his campaign for Maamigili constituency, he spoke more on the matter at the event at Alif Dhaal Fenfushi to launch his campaign last night. He said that the names released were only that of those that receive bank transfers. He added that moving forward with the matter under justice requires that the names of receivers of cash finances need to be revealed.

Qasim said that the people who received the cash finances also received finances from MMPRC.  He said however that he believes that the ACC will release the names in the future.

The leader of JP has said that there are certainly many who would know the details regarding the matter. He added that we have to accept that it is the biggest case of corruption involving State finances. As such, Qasim has called for the reveal of the full list of names.

While Qasim is the Chairperson of Villa Travels, he responded to the reveal in ACC report that company involved with MMPRC, SOF Pvt Ltd had transferred funds to Villa Travels. Qasim said that the exchange was a legitimate exchange made for the purchasing of dollars for the company. As such, he noted that Villa Travels is a company that frequently purchases dollars and said that there is rarely a confirmation of exactly who the purchase of dollars is taking place with. As such, it is difficult to ascertain whether the funds had originally been acquired through corruption at MMPRC.

While ACC revealed the report on corruption at MMPRC and companies and persons involved, ladt Thursday, there are many who claim that the report is incomplete as of now.
