Haa Dhaalu Atoll Nolhivaramfaru has been placed under monitoring status after a surge in COVID-19 cases on the island.

Councilman at the Nolhivaramfaru Island Council, Ahmed Waheed told ONE Online today that the COVID-19 situation on the island has worsened with 38 samples tested positive so far.

He said that the number of positive cases among those consulting at the flu clinic are climbing along with the direct contact of those people who are testing positive.

Waheed said that the school holidays has increased the people visiting the island and those who visited the capital and other islands. He said that the number of active cases went up to 38 two days ago and more samples are pending results which could increase the number of cases.

Furthermore, the Nolhivaramfaru Councilor said that there had been COVID-19 cases in the island before but the people who tested positive did not show symptoms. However, this wave of cases are showing strong symptoms such as coughing, body aches and headaches in those who tests positive.
