President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the Maldivian cricket team has a bright future, provided that they play several matches with team in the region.

President Solih said this during matches played against some of India’s popular cricket players.

President Solih spoke to the press after the first match of the Maldives Friendship Cricket Series 2019 and said that he would like to facilitate further matches like this in the future.

President Solih noted that neighboring countries to Maldives are the leading nations in cricket. The President cited the countries of India, Sri lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as countries at the top level of this game. As such, President Solih said that Maldivian teams have a bright future in the sport, provided they participate in several matches with neighboring countries.

The second match of yesterday was played by President Solih’s team. The team’s members included Vice President Faisal Naseem and former Maldivian Cricket players as well.

The team that went up against President Solih’s team included members who had played at an international level in the Indian cricket team. As such, Indian national team player from 2003 to 2017, Yuvraj Singh also took part in the match. Although Yuvraj Singh is currently not spotted playing for Indian National team, the cricket player still participates in the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
