President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is set to visit Kaafu Atoll Maafushi to take part in the handover ceremony of Vahmaafushi, which was reclaimed by dredging, to the Maafushi Island Council.
Spokesperson of the President's Office, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz took to Twitter this morning announcing that the President will be taking part in the handover ceremony of the picnic island.
The President is also set to meet with the Island Council and the Women's Development Committee and tour key locations.
The small picnic island of less than two hectares, Vahmaafushi, on the north-east of Maafushi was completely overrun during the 2004 tsunami and has been reclaimed upon the request from the people of Maafushi.
The reclamation project worth MVR 10.8 million run by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) recovered two hectares of land and developed protection for the beach.
This is the third picnic island reclamation project run by MTCC.
