Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has announced that the Bangladesh government is considering options for direct connectivity between Maldives and Bangladesh through air and sea routes.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Maldives yesterday on an official state visit after President Solih extended her an invitation. President Solih and Sheikh Hasina delivered a joint statement on Thursday afternoon, following official talks between the nations.

In his statement, President Solih stated that he had discussed with Sheikh Hasina on improving the air connectivity between the nations.

With regards to this, Sheikh Hasina noted that the biggest private airline in Bangladesh, US-Bangla Airlines have already started operations to the Maldives with national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines considering direct flights between Dhaka and Maldives. She further added that discussions were also held on establishing a direct shipping route between the nations.

During President Solih's visit to Bangladesh last March, Sheikh Hasina had announced that Biman Bangladesh Airlines was going to begin operations between the countries and that this would improve the connectivity between the countries.
