Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has announced their government’s decision to facilitate visas on arrival for Maldivian nationals in the context of the improved situation in the current pandemic.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Maldives yesterday on an official state visit after President Solih extended her an invitation. President Solih and Sheikh Hasina delivered a joint statement on Thursday afternoon, following official talks between the nations.

During the statement, she announced the Bangladeshi government’s decision to facilitate visas on arrival for Maldivian nationals in the context of the improved situation in the current pandemic and issuing long-term student visa facilitation for Maldivian students in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh had also previously provided on arrival visas for Maldivians, however following the Covid-19 pandemic the country had discontinued issuing on arrival visas to any countries.

President Solih and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed their commitment to work together at the United Nations and other multilateral fora and expressed their readiness to advance constructive engagement in all spheres.
