The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country has risen to 256 after another person has passed away due to complications with the illness.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that an 82-year-old local man being treated at the Hulhumale' COVID-19 Treatment Facility passed away at 2:23 p.m. this afternoon.

With this most recent deaths, the total number of COVID-related deaths in the country has risen to 256 and now consists of that consists of 239 locals and 17 foreigners.

The highest number of COVID deaths were reported in the country in May 2021 where 13 deaths were reported on the 25th alone.

The first COVID-related death in the country was reported on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old woman.
